What I can learn in basic OB Class?

Dog Obedience Class

Basic Obedience Class is a necessity for many dog owners. What do you expect to learn in basic OB Class? Even though you might see your neighbour have it easy during their walks. Typically only 5% of your neighbour might have it easy, whereas 95% of them have gone through some form of obedience training in one way or another.

In reality, basic obedience training is good for both the puppy and the owner. Especially for the first time dog owners, OB Class give them an opportunity to talk, asks and learn from dog owners.

Dog Obedience Class

In most basic obedience class, your training syllabus will be usually in 4 category.

1. Attention Category

- Name Calling

- Eye Contact &

- Fronting (as backup facing owner)

2. Response Category

- Medley Recall

- Touch (Targeting) &

- Closed (Setup position)

3. Restraint Control Category

- Stay,

- Sit,

- Down &

- Leave-it

4. Management Category

- Walking on loose leash

- Meet and Greet, &

- Socialization.

And of course the training technique is crucial here. If we can achieve even more using positive technique, we should rely more on humane technique than corrective or punishment technique.

I heard many people refer to Corrective Based Techique as fast food chain, whereas Positive Based Technique is slow.

As a professional certified dog trainer, my recommendation to you is to find a humane and effective training method. If it's train in a systematic way, I don't see why positive training is slower!

Happy Training & stay positive.
