The Benefit of Long Walks
Long Walks with our dog has been widely promoted in part of dog ownership. Apart from the health benefits, I would like to bring to your attention on the other benefits. Long walks can and should be classify as part of Dog Obedience Training.
Physically and Mentally Stimulated on walks. Smelling along the walks, provide live news update like we do on news feeds. Information presented provide a broad exposure of our dog to the awareness of the environment.
Bond building. The walks present certain uncertainty and challenges. It provide a constant mental support where our dog need to rely on the owners for safety and direction.
Dependency on owners. For long walks more than 45 minutes, present opportunity to build on dependency. As our dog look towards the owner for support, comfort and reliability.
Quality time with your dog. Long walk present opportunity where both the dog and owner learns how to work with each other. Body language, tone, cues, handling, gesture, reaction, reliability and responsibility. Your dog learns about you and can read you like a book and vice versa.
Ride through the Emotions. The long walks present you the start of excitement, grow into full exposure to environment, heighten arousal, over the excitement and eventual winding down. This whole episode provide you the opportunity to manage your dog, manage his emotions and manages your own too.
