When do I start training my puppy?

Puppy Training Class

This is definitely one of the Million dollar question! When should I start training Benji? As soon as you have your vaccinations done up, Benji should be good to go and join a Basic Obedience Class. But I have heard I should wait out till he is at least 6 months old before I enrol him into Obedience classes? This piece of advice is incorrect. Why do correction trainers advise you to train after 6 months? This is to ensure your puppy's neck has grown and able to take the yanking training that corrective trainers prescribe. In this modern age, we uses Positive Reinforcement and/or Reward Based Training Concept, where we uses Markers to MARK the correct behaviors and PAIR it with a reward, thus making it fun for Benji to keep repeating the desired behaviors. What's the Basic Obedience Classes entails? 1. Potty Training, 2. Name Calling, 3. Sit, 4. Down, 5. Stay, 6. Come, 7. Leave it, 8. Loose leash Walking, 9. Bite inhibition, and 10. Puppy Socialization. With these 10 exercises, your puppy is on his way to a friendly, well behaved and well-loved pooch in town. As our puppy is often regarded as a piece of white paper, if you leave it to nature or fate, your puppy will likely picked up some problematic behavioral issues, which might have been avoided if you have chosen to start training Benji early. And Not wait out till you have any behavioral issues before you seek for a professional help. As a rule of thumb, once you have acquired some bad behaviors, you will need to spend considerable amount of time and effort to retrain Benji. As an old Chinese Saying; "The learning of bad behavior take a day, while the learning of a good behavior take at least three days" So wait no further, go and join a Positive Dog Training Class today. Have fun & stay positive!
