Why your dog vomits
and how to take care of your dog after vomiting
Dog’s vomiting is an unwanted substance that expelled from the mouth under the force and contraction of the stomach muscles. The dog vomits because he may have eaten an inappropriate food, overeating or too quickly in a short time. However, the causes may be more complicated, such as if they are poisoned or have a severe health problem. For these severe cases, we need the help of veterinary medicine. Here are some tips for caring for dogs at home after your dog vomits.
Take care right after the dog vomits
If the dog remains awake and vomits only once, eats well, usually urinates, it may be a separate case, not necessarily an emergency. You can take care of your dog at home and keep an eye on their condition. Here are some things to do right after your dog vomits:
o Keep your dog warm and comfortable. After your dog vomits, comfort him, so he knows he has done nothing wrong. Try to let the dog lie down and rest. If your dog seems to be cold and shivering, you should cover the dog, take care, and help the dog when needed.
o Wipe dog's fur off with a warm, wet towel. A dry vomit can cause a sticky coat, so make sure your dog's vomit removed. You should only clean the fur when the dog is resting for a while and stop cleaning if the dog is upset.
o Do not give your dog food for 12 hours after vomiting. Give them ice cubes to lick, or provide some water, every half hour.
o After about 12 - 24 hours from the first vomit, start feeding again with light, soft, and moist foods, every 1-2 hours.
o Once the vomiting has completely stopped, you can return to the regular diet the next day.
o Watch for signs that your dog may vomit again. Before your dog vomits or feels nauseous, it may drool, lick its lips, and swallow its saliva repeatedly. You should watch closely since the first time your dog has vomited because constant vomiting needs emergency.
Emergency handling
If your dog vomits multiple times a day or lasts more than a day, you need to get rid of all the food the dog has eaten. You need to thoroughly and carefully observe all their symptoms to make the veterinarian's diagnosis more accurate. If the following symptoms appear, you should take them to the clinic immediately:
o In the composition of vomiting blood.
o Dogs with abdominal distention, fever, diarrhea
o Dogs appear slow and weak.
o Persistent vomits and unable to drink water for four hours.
o You suspect your dog has food poisoning or swallowing toxic substances.
o Your dog is a puppy or has never fully vaccinated.
Vomiting is not uncommon. It is mostly due to simple causes and does not pose a risk to your dog's health, so you should not be overly concerned when your dog is vomiting. However, you also need to monitor and pay attention to other dangerous possibilities. If you know the situation and have a timely solution, rest assured that your dog will be okay.
