Today, I want to discuss how often we neglect the gem at home. I am referring to the household gem. Not every symptom we see in our puppy means we rush to the vet's office.
Here are seven (7) common symptoms:
Bleeding caused by nail clipping
For any cut that is not severe, you can use the tea leaves from the tea bags to stop the bleeding immediately. Grab a handful and apply it to the bleeding wound, and apply some pressure for 2-3 minutes to stop the bleeding effectively.
Diarrhoea Management
Pumpkin, Toast-Bread or White Rice, these household remedies are great to help our puppy relieve diarrhoea or loose stool. The rule of thumb is to stop feeding. Any feeds might cause more stomach upset in our dogs. Get your hands on cooked pumpkin, toasted bread and white rice and feed your puppy to harden the stool. Typically, within half a day, you will see the stool of your puppy gradually harden up. Once you have a hardened stool, you can resume normal food.
Flea & Tick Management
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) can be a helpful natural remedy for dogs when used safely and in moderation. It can support digestion, promote skin health, and even help in flea and tick prevention. However, it's crucial to dilute ACV before using it topically or orally.
Orally – I would recommend you dilute one cap of ACV with 1.5 L of water. With this mixture, you can put it in their water bowl or pour it into their food bowl for your dogs to drink as soup.
Topically, I would recommend you spray over the entire body of the dog, especially in the chest, armpits and legs. ACV will act as an anti-flea repellent to stop fleas and ticks from clinging onto the bodies of the dogs during walks.
Bad Breath
Cucumber. Yes, dogs can safely eat cucumber in moderation. Cucumbers are low-calorie, high-water and hydrating treats that dogs can enjoy. They also contain vitamins and minerals. And cucumbers are a great reliever of bad breath in dogs.
Pain Management, such as limping
Raw honey is a source of antioxidants and natural enzymes, potentially aiding indigestion, boosting the immune system, and even helping with wound care and allergies. Its anti-inflammatory property helps reduce inflammation and pain.
Indigestion
Yoghurt and Yakult contain probiotic cultures and can be a beneficial addition to a dog's diet for digestive health & potentially other benefits. The benefits are aiding in digestion, diarrhoea management, immune support, antibiotic-related support, natural deworming and bad breath prevention.
Wound & Skin Management
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) can be a helpful natural remedy for dogs when used safely and in moderation. It can support digestion, promote skin health, and even help in flea and tick prevention. However, it's crucial to dilute ACV before using it topically or orally.
Orally – I would recommend you dilute one cap of ACV with 1.5 L of water. With this mixture, you can put it in their water bowl or pour it into their food bowl for your dogs to drink as soup.
Topically, I would recommend you dilute three caps of ACV with three caps of lukewarm water. If your dogs have any wounds, bumps, etc., applying ACV will get them relief within 1 day of application.
So next time when you see such symptoms in your dogs, do not rush to the vet's office; you can utilise all these home or household remedies to relieve your dogs and provide them with a healthier and safer lifestyle.
